None of the water mills of Aggista exist today. They have collapsed and only remnants of them exist, out of the total of 9 or 12 that existed.
It is certain that their very existence was important for the culture of the mountainous countryside. In the pre-industrial period, the main product for man's livelihood was wheat, which was processed almost exclusively into bread. As hand mills were not sufficient for grinding, the use of water mills was absolutely necessary.
The buildings of the mills were stone-built, with a wooden roof. On one side was the grinding mechanism, while on the other the customers were waiting (delivering wheat, receiving flour, payment, storage).
The watermill mechanism was simpler both in terms of construction and operation. Its division into two parts: the kinetic part, which is made up of the impeller with its operating parts, and the grinding part which includes the millstones together with their parts. The construction of the millstone was made from a single stone selected from specific millstones. Usually the diameter of the millstone is 1 meter, its thickness 20-30 centimeters and its weight up to 400 kg.
