On August 24, 2022 ICOM (International Council for Museums) approved the new definition of the Museum, setting realistic foundations for the future operation of organizations, recognizing the great importance of social participation.

     The museum is a non-profit, permanent institution in the service of society that researches, collects, preserves, interprets and exhibits tangible and intangible heritage.

     Open to the public, accessible and inclusive, museums encourage diversity and sustainability. They operate and communicate ethically, professionally and with community involvement, offering diverse experiences for education, enjoyment, reflection and knowledge sharing.

     The Folklore Museum "Hayati Ladia" in the same direction from 2021, started a dialogue with the local community of Proti, which aimed to collect material evidence for the Periodical Exhibition entitled: "From uprooting to the new homeland: The generations tell » on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Disaster.

     The descendants of the refugees-residents of the Proti Neighborhood, who constitute a special memory group, retrieved personal memories and heirlooms by participating in all stages of the curatorial process, constantly feeding back the research with new elements and enriching the exhibition with objects, themselves undertaking the moral weight of their presentation in the museum space.

     The great appeal of the exhibition was particularly noticeable on the day of the opening with the crowded and emotionally charged courtyard of the Museum.
